The Green Army, an anti poaching unit in Zimbabwe, run by two former members of Australian Special Forces.

February 7, 2015, two poachers were killed by members of the Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe and parks, during a clash in the Kapungashiri area on the southern border of the Park national Matusadonha.

The public relations director of the Managing Authority of wildlife and parks of Zimbabwe, Caroline Washaya-Moyo confirmed the incident, adding that the rangers who were on patrol in the area heard two shots of large caliber. Rangers responded immediately and then left to follow the tracks left by poachers.

Washaya-Moyo added that three poachers have been spotted, and when they became aware of the presence of rangers, they immediately opened fire. Their action led the Rangers to replicate and killed the shooter in the act. The second poacher tried to use the weapon used by his shot friend but he got killed during his attempt. The third poacher fled.

The bodies of two poachers were sent to the ZRP Siakobvu where the incident occurred and an investigation was launched under the RRB record number 1913102. One of the men killed was identifed as John Raymon Village Chibayamagora, under authority of the Chief Msambakaruma. He is on the wanted list because he was found in possession of four elephant tusks, but he was released, his case is still pending. Another poacher was shot that the shooter is being identified.

The following items were found on the scene of the incident:

  • 1 x .303 rifle (serial number 30077 SRG)
  • 7 cartridges .303 rounds
  • 1 knife
  • 1 large pot for cooking
